etymology of the body
by Alexandra Hartman you’re thin and ghostly
pale
damaged by disaster
you’ve dismantled yourself
stacked silent pieces
into darkened corners my belly’s full but dispossessed
folded over into mind
I am waiting
flesh in flesh
body in body
lying, bitten to the bone
I want to rake my teeth over pink skin.
my breasts, my stomach, my thighs
a mind without a home
quiet plane neither dangerous nor known
fearful object of my desire
you move through the tortured territory
of my body
breathe me alive and tell me i exist
under all this delicate skin
I’m a cannibal
living in the still, lonely place on the other side
I can eat everything but my bones
